Russian players arrive in Hanoi for three-side friendly tournament
VOV.VN - The Russian national football team led by head coach Valeri Karpin landed at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on September 4 to prepare for the LPBank Cup 2024, an international football friendly tournament featuring the national teams of Vietnam, Thailand, and Russia.
Duong Nghiep Khoi, general secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), received the Russian team at the airport, expressing hope that Valeri Karpin and his team would enjoy nice memories during their trip to Vietnam.
The Russian side have sent several outstanding players to the tournament, including Konstantin Tyukavin, 22, who won the best Russian footballer award last year; along with young talent Sergei Pinyayev, a 19-year-old midfielder who plays for Lokomotiv Moscow club and the Russian national team.
Goalkeeper Matvey Safonov who plays as a goalkeeper for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and the Russia national team will also play in the upcoming games. He is famous for joining reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain on June 14, signing a five-year deal with a transfer fee of EUR20 million.
Elsewhere, midfielder Daler Kuzyayev who plays for French Ligue 1 club Le Havre has been named in the Russian squad for the LPBank Cup 2024.
As planned, all matches of the LPBank Cup 2024 will take place at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi at 8p.m. Vietnam will play Russia on September 5 and Thailand on September 10, whilst Russia and Thailand will meet each other on September 7.
The tournament is taking place during the FIFA Days and is expected to attract a large number of spectators as it is crucial for the Vietnam national team in the lead up to the 2024 ASEAN Championship (AFF Cup) later this year.
