Record medal tally for Vietnam at Asian Youth Games 2025

VOV.VN - Vietnamese athletes brought home a record 19 medals, including one gold, seven silvers, and 11 bronzes at the 2025 Asian Youth Games, which wrapped up in Bahrain on October 30.

This marks the country’s best-ever performance at the continental event. The lone gold medal came from Nguyen Thanh Duy in the weightlifting competition.

On the final day, Vietnamese competitors took part in beach wrestling, jujitsu, and judo. In beach wrestling, under the guidance of former star wrestler Nguyen Thi Lua, fighter Bui Ngoc Thao Thom earned a silver medal in the women’s 55kg category after defeating opponents from the Philippines, Bahrain, and Thailand. She narrowly lost 1–2 to Anjali Anjali of India in the final.

Her teammate Lam Minh Gia Huy secured a bronze in the men’s 60kg division, while Pham Huynh Minh Hieu fell short of a medal in the men’s 90kg.

In jujitsu, Hoang Manh Luong (men’s 48kg) and Nong Bao Ngoc (women’s 48kg) each added a bronze medal to Vietnam’s tally.

Meanwhile, in judo, local judoka Pham Minh Tuyet claimed a bronze after defeating Demuul Suvd-Erdene of Mongolia in the women’s 57kg category.

The 2025 Asian Youth Games brought together young athletes from over 40 countries and territories across the continent.
