Qatari referee to officiate Vietnam match against Iraq

VOV.VN - Referee Al Marri Abdulla of Qatar is set to take charge of the upcoming fixture between Vietnam and Iraq in the second qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the game being held on November 21 at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi.

According to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Al Marri Abdulla will be assisted by Khalaf Khaled and Alshammari Faisal, both of whom are from Qatar. 

Albadowe Ahmad Bin Ahmad of Singapore will serve as the fourth referee during the match.

In September, 2021, Abdulla was the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the national team’s fixture against Australia when they lost 1-0 to Australia at the My Dinh Stadium in qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In the second qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Vietnam have been placed in Group F.

A total of 36 teams have been divided into nine groups to compete in the second qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the Asian region.

According to the schedule, November will see the Vietnamese team led by coach Philippe Troussier will play an away game against the Philippines on November 16 before returning for a home game against Iraq on November 21.

Vietnam will then play an away game against Indonesia on March 21, 2024.

According to the tournament rules, the top two teams from each group will progress to the third round and secure direct qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup. The remaining 18 teams will then proceed to participate in the third and final round of qualifiers.
