PM meets women footballers ahead of their World Cup campaign
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met and offered encouragement to coach Mai Duc Chung and other members of the Vietnam national women’s football team in Hanoi on July before they fly to New Zealand and Australia for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
He praised the female footballers for their willpower and bravery to qualify for the final round of the World Cup competition for the first time in history, helping to elevate Vietnamese football’s profile globally.
He recalled the outstanding achievements Vietnamese athletes have recorded in recent times, and expected that the female footballers would try their best to ‘leave a good impression on global spectators and to bring glory to the fatherland’.
The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will jointly be hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.
Vietnam will play in Group E against defending champions USA on July 22, Portugal on July 27, and the Netherlands on August 1.
