Players get ready for int’l open chess tourney in HCM city

VOV.VN -Chess players in Vietnam are looking forward to some exciting matchups when the HDBank Cup International Open Chess Tournament 2017 (March 12-17) opens in just a few days in Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnamese Chess Grandmaster Le Quang Liem
This event has attracted a strong field of players and include number one seeded Wei Yi from China (Elo rating 2725) and number two seeded Le Quang Liem from Vietnam (Elo 2712).

Other top contenders for this event include Vietnamese chess players Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Hoang Thi Bao Tram and Vo Thi Kim Phung.

All told the organizers have announced they expect to see 230 players from 25 countries at the First Hotel vying for total cash prizes of US$45,000 including US$13,000 for first-place.
