In its rankings released on July 17 by the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour Asia, the Vietnamese athlete leads in the professional men’s singles division with 1,000 points after a commanding performance in the final game of the inaugural tournament in Kuala Lumpur where he defeated Indian contender Vanshik Kapadia.

Kapadia finishes second with 800 points, and Wong Hong Kit of Hong Kong (China) comes third with 600 points.

Giang, 28, hailing from Hanoi, has been one of the top tennis players in Vietnam. He was a member of the national team in the Davis Cup and the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

As pickleball began to gain momentum in Vietnam and the region, he transitioned to the emerging sport. Together with Ly Hoang Nam, Vietnam’s former No.1 tennis player, Giang has competed in various domestic and international pickleball doubles tournaments.

His championship title not only marks a personal career highlight but also serves as a proud moment for Vietnam’s growing pickleball community. The win reflects the sport's rapid development in Vietnam, despite having only recently gained popularity over the past year. Vietnam also celebrated victory in the U18 men’s doubles category, with Tong Nhat Minh and Le Xuan Duc taking home the title.

For his stellar performance in Malaysia, PPA Tour decided to bring the tournament to Vietnam, with Vietnam Open 2025 scheduled to take place in Ho Chi Minh City from September 4 to 7.
