Over 600 athletes compete in Ly Son Cross Island swimming competition

More than 600 athletes from 10 countries took part in the Ly Son Cross Island 2024 swimming competition on June 2.

This is the second time the event has been held as part of a series of cultural and sports events to stimulate tourism in Ly Son island district in the central province of Quang Ngai.

The athletes competed in three distances, namely 5km, 2km and 1km. Some 350 swimmers joined in the 5km event which started at To Vo Gate on Lon (Big) island and ended at Be (Small) island.

Ngo Minh Chien and Le Thị Nhu Quynh of the host Vietnam won the men's and women's 5km categories, respectively.

Vo Tri Trung and Nguyen Thi Nhat Lam were the winners of the men's and women's 2km events, while Dang Ngoc Tien and Le Thi Loan, all of Vietnam, topped the men's and women's 1km categories.

According to Chairman of the Ly Son District People's Committee Pham Thi Huong, in preparation for the competition, the local administration has directed devisions and agencies to review accommodation establishments and work with inland waterway ports and relevant agencies to ensure safety for athletes and tourists.
