Vietnam has won four gold, four silver and five bronze medals at the 30th Southeast Asian Junior Swimming Championship, which took place in Jakarta, Indonesia, from June 2-4.

The Vietnamese team was praised by other teams, as seven of its eight players won medals in the tournament with the participation of nearly 200 athletes from six countries, including Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, said Dinh Viet Hung, head of the Vietnamese delegation.

The tournament is annually held to help swimmers between 11 and 17 get accustomed to international competition, as well as to provide them with an opportunity to learn from their rivals in order to become regional and international athletes in the future.

Vietnam hosted the event in 2004 in the central city of Da Nang.
