According to the Vietnam Athletics Federation (VAF), the official slot for the Vietnamese athletics team has been allocated to the women's 400m event.

The VAF, the athletics department under the Sports Authority of Vietnam, and the coaching staff of the Vietnamese youth athletics team will select the most suitable athlete to qualify for the Games.

Vietnam previously earned two athletics berths at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, where athletes competed in the 2,000m steeplechase and 1,500m events, though no medals were secured.

The 2026 Youth Olympic Games, due to take place in Dakar, Senegal from October 31 to November 13, will feature 36 athletics events, equally divided between men and women, including sprints, middle-distance races, hurdles, jumps and throws.

The Youth Olympics provides an important platform for young athletes to gain international experience and develop competitively.

Vietnamese sports authorities are continuing efforts to secure additional qualification slots across disciplines for the upcoming Games.
