New V.League 1 season set to start on January 15
VOV.VN - Nam Dinh FC willl host Hanoi FC at the Thien Truong Stadium at 6p.m. on January 15 to kick off the 2021 V.League 1 season, Vietnam’s top football tournament.
The match marks the return of the domestic league following a 2020 season which was greatly disrupted by the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Ahead of the new season, each team’s footballers are keen to get the league season underway and achieve the best results possible, according to Van Sy, head coach of Nam Dinh FC, adding that his squad are made of local footballers who performed well at the national U21 championship.
The new foreigners added to the Nam Dinh FC squad include the likes of Gramoz Kurtaj, Rodrigo Dias, and Wesley Rodrigues, all of whom have been signed to move the team forward, Sy added.
In contrast, Hanoi FC have a long injury list, including Van Hau, Duy Manh, and Dinh Trong, all of whom will miss out on the first clash against rivals Nam Dinh.
However, Chu Dinh Nghiem, Hanoi FC’s head coach, said his players are ready for the game and they do not want to make their supporters dissatisfied during the opening game.
Last year saw the V.League 1 postponed several times due to the COVID-19 epidemic, with the national league eventually reopening with a limit placed on crowd numbers.
Defeating many hopefuls, Viettel FC clinched the V. League title for the first time in their career, while Hanoi FC finished as runners-up. Both teams qualified for Asian Football Confederation (AFC) tournaments which will take place this year.
The upcoming 2021 V.League 1 season is set to see a total of 14 teams compete in the competition, with the domestic league due to conclude before September 30.
