Nearly 10,000 to compete in VPBank Hanoi International Marathon

VOV.VN - The Hanoi VPBank International Marathon (VPIM) 2023, an annual international sporting event held in the capital, is scheduled to take place on October 8 and attract the participation of around 10,000 local and foreign runners.

At a press conference on March 16, Phung Duy Khuong, deputy general director of Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank), said the event is a non-profit race, with the proceeds going to charity.

With each registered runner, the organisers will donate a total of VND30,000 to charity activities, he added.

Runners are expected to compete across a full marathon of 42.2km, a half-marathon of 21.1km, as well as 10km and five km races. All competitors will depart from the pedestrian street around Ho Guom (Returned Sword) Lake and run along streets in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

The VPIM 2023 track will be standardised to meet international criteria set by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).

Staff of diplomatic corps, international organisations, foreigners working and studying in Vietnam, and international tourists will participate in the race.

First held in 2018, the race aims to mark Hanoi’s Liberation Day which falls on October 10.
