National women’s football team retains top spot in Southeast Asia

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Football Federation announced on October 21 that the national women’s football team ranks 37th globally, 6th in Asia, and 1st in Southeast Asia, according to the latest FIFA Women's World Ranking.

At the recently concluded 2026 Asian Games (ASIAD 20) in Japan, the team lost three matches and drew one. However, the latest FIFA update shows the ranking of head coach Hoang Van Phuc and his players unchanged at 37th in the world, 6th in Asia, and top in Southeast Asia.

Globally, Spain stays atop the table, widening its lead over second-placed the US to nearly 80 points. Germany holds third place following back-to-back home friendly wins. In the top 10, Denmark is the only team to shift position, climbing two spots to 10th and returning to the top group for the first time since August 2010.

The update covers 183 international matches, including qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in Europe and Africa, African Olympic qualifiers, and international friendlies.

Malawi made the biggest leap, jumping 49 places to 104th worldwide. Reaching the final of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, securing a historic first World Cup berth, and earning strong recent results helped Malawi gain 158.44 points, a record increase for the team.

Several other African teams also climbed the table, including Cameroon (up 9 places to 62nd), Tanzania (up 11 places to 111th), and Burkina Faso (up 9 places to 109th). Conversely, Egypt fell 14 places to 113th, Zimbabwe dropped 9 places to 136th, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo slipped 8 places to 114th.

Holding 37th place globally, 6th in Asia, and 1st in Southeast Asia with 1,585.06 points shows the continued stability of the team, giving coach Hoang Van Phuc and his players a firm basis for upcoming targets.
