National futsal team prepares for AFC Futsal Championship finals

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national futsal team gathered together at Thai Son Nam competition hall in Ho Chi Minh City on November 30 in order to start their preparations ahead of the 2020 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Championship finals.

The training camp is being held only a few days after the conclusion of the Futsal HDBank National Cup 2020 with a total of 21 players in the squad.

Most notably, the team features many players from newly-crowned domestic champions Thai Son Nam Futsal Club, including the local league’s best goalkeeper Ho Van Y, best footballer Nguyen Minh Tri, and top goal scorer Nguyen Thinh Phat.

Alongside these established stars, many talented young players will receive plenty of support from the national futsal team’s head coach Pham Minh Giang, with notable names, including Nguyen Van Hieu of Da Nang FC, Huynh Mi Woen of Cao Bang FC, and Tu Minh Quang of Thai Son Bac FC.

The training camp is scheduled to last until December 20, marking the national futsal team’s second gathering this year.

In January the team participated in a training course in Spain before the AFC Futsal Championship finals were postponed due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.

Most recently, the AFC approved the new schedule for the regional futsal tournament’s finals, with the competition due to take place in Kuwait from March 23, 2021, to April 3, 2021.

Vietnam have been drawn in Group A, alongside Turkmenistan, Oman, and Tajikistan. Whilst Group B features Japan, Lebanon, Kuwait, and Kyrgyzstan.
