National badminton team bows out of 2026 World Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnam's national badminton team has concluded its run at the 2026 BWF World Championships in India following early-round exits across all contested events.
In the women's singles, Vu Thi Trang was eliminated in the second round after a hard-fought 1-2 loss (17-21, 21-19, 11-21) to 14th seed Sim Yu-jin of South Korea in a match lasting nearly an hour. Earlier, top player Nguyen Thuy Linh suffered a first-round defeat.
Explaining her early departure on social media, Thuy Linh revealed she suffered sudden back muscle spasms due to overexertion right after a warm-up session before her opening match, though prompt assistance from the Singapore team's physiotherapist allowed her to complete the game.
In the women’s doubles, the pair Pham Thi Khanh and Pham Thi Dieu Ly fell 0-2 to world No. 1 duo Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning of China.
Although the championships run through August 23, all eight national players have now completed their matches. Historically, former star Nguyen Tien Minh holds the country’s best result at the World Championships, having secured a bronze medal in the men’s singles in 2013.
