Nam wins quarter-final berth at Japan F3 event
Ly Hoang Nam of Vietnam won two matches on March 22 to book a slot in the quarter-finals at the Japan F3 Men’s Futures tennis tournament’s singles event in Kofu City.
Nam beat Sho Katayama 6-1, 6-2 in the first match and went on to win 6-2, 6-3 over Hiroyasu Ehara in the second one. Both of his rivals were from the host country.
In the last-eight, Nam will play No 6 seed Gao Xin of China. Gao also pocketed two wins over Yusuke Watanuki of Japan and Wu Tung-lin from Chinese Taipei.

In the doubles category, Nam and Yusuke Takahashi were eliminated in the first match, losing 2-6, 6-3, 7-10 to No 4 duo Yuichi Ito and Jumpei Yamasaki of Japan.
In other news, Nguyen Van Phuong of Vietnam advanced to the third round of the Kuala Lumpur ITF International Junior Championship’s boys singles U18 G5 event.
Phương beat Muhammad Syabil Md Shaharudin of the hosts 6-1, 6-3 on Wednesday.
The No 16 seed will next play No 4 Theertha Shashank Macherla from India.
Vietnam have four representatives at this tournament but three were disqualified in earlier rounds.
