Minh secures ParaGames’ gold hattrick
Nguyen Hoang Minh completed a hat-trick at the ASEAN Para Games after winning his third gold medal in the men’s T12/13 1,500m on September 20 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

On Tuesday, Minh triumphed in the T12 400m and 800m events.
His success capped a solid day for Việt Nam, with titles in various events.
Minutes later Vương Châu pocketed gold in the men’s F42 discus throw with 34.47m.
He overcame Sutarno of Indonesia and Tin Nyo of Myanmar to top the category.
Nguyễn Thị Hải added her second gold after winning the women’s F56/57 javelin throw. On September 18 she won the discus event.
Hải was followed by Seriwati of Indonesia and Puangpet Chaithongrat from Thailand.
Other medallists included Tran Van Duc in the men’s T46 1,500m, Phung Dinh Tu in the men’s T45/46 100m, Phan Van Dung in the men’s javelin F43/44, Ha Thi Hue in the women’s F37 discus and Nguyen Thi Mai in the women’s F37 javelin. All won silver.
In the pool, Vi Thị Hằng, who won Viet Nam’s first gold at this Games, triumphed for the second time.
She won the women’s SB6 100m breaststroke with a time of 2:04.15, followed by Riyanti from Indonesia and Vietnamese Du Thi Lan.
“I am really happy as I sang our national anthem for the second time here in Malaysia. It is great to see the result of what my coaches and I prepared for months. I had a little regret that I could not reach my best time of 1:58.00 that I did at this year’s national championship because I was not really confident against Riyanti,” Hằng told Việt Nam News.
She said she would do better in her last event, the SB6 50m freestyle today.
Her first win in Malaysia was in the SB6 100m freestyle on September 18.
Earlier September 20, Trinh Thi Bich Nhu won a swimming title in the women’s SB5 100m breaststroke, timing 1:55.47. Her teammate Nguyen Thi Sari came second and Koh Lee Peng of the hosts was third.
Other medal holders were Dang Van Cong, silver, in the men’s S8 400m freestyle and Phạm Thành Đạt, bronze, in the men’s S9 400m freestyle.
On the last day of powerlifting, Nguyen Van Hung and Ma Phuong Quang claimed a silver and a bronze in the men’s 72kg category, respectively.
Powerlifters completed their Games with four golds, four silvers and two bronzes.
