Master Hien bags silver at national chess competition

World U8 champion Nguyen Le Cam Hien earned a silver medal at the National Youth Chess Championship’s girls’ U9 category on July 17 in Danang.

Hien, from Quang Ninh Province, grabbed 7.5 points and came in second in the standard chess event.

Thai Ngoc Tuong Minh of Dong Nai won a gold medal with 8.5 points.

Earlier, Hien claimed a bronze medal in rapid chess and finished sixth in the blitz event.

In other standard categories, Vuong Trung Hieu topped the boys’ U20; Nguyen Hoang Anh won the girls’ U20; Phung Thi Quynh Trang triumphed in the girls’ U17, and Le Minh Hoang claimed the boys’ U17.
