Manchester United legends arrive in Vietnam for exchange, friendly matches

VOV.VN - Manchester United legends Teddy Sheringham, Wes Brown, and Dion Dublin, accompanied by 10 academy players, have arrived in Vietnam to take part in a series of fan engagement activities and prepare for friendly matches in Hanoi and Da Nang.

Their visit is part of the 2025 international football–healthcare–community engagement programme, aimed at strengthening ties with Manchester United fans in Vietnam while promoting youth football development. The tour includes meet-and-greet sessions, autograph signings, youth training clinics, and friendly matches against former Vietnamese football stars and local players, promising memorable experiences for fans across the country.

Vietnam is known for having one of the largest and most passionate Manchester United fanbases in Southeast Asia. This visit offers local supporters a rare opportunity to meet their football idols in person, while also fostering deeper cultural and sporting relations between Vietnam and the United Kingdom.

The first stop of the tour took place on June 25 at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, where a large crowd gathered to welcome the visiting legends. At the event, the MU stars toured the hospital’s state-of-the-art facilities, met with patients, signed memorabilia, and handed out complimentary tickets to their upcoming matches in Hanoi and Da Nang.

Former striker Teddy Sheringham was the center of attention at the event. A key figure in Manchester United’s legendary 1998/99 treble-winning team (Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League), Sheringham famously scored one of the crucial goals in the dramatic 2–1 comeback victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final. This visit marks his first time in Vietnam, where he expressed amazement at the size and enthusiasm of the local fanbase.

Over his illustrious career, Sheringham played alongside football greats like Andy Cole, David Beckham, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Dwight Yorke, collecting major titles including the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League.

During the visit, the MU legends were also introduced to the Tam Anh Hospital’s Centre for Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, which features cutting-edge technology used by top European clubs. Equipment such as the Dyneelax robotic ligament assessment system, Shockwave therapy machines, radiofrequency (RF) treatment devices, and the R-Force anti-gravity rehabilitation system impressed the guests with its advanced approach to athletic care and recovery.

The Manchester United legends' tour is expected to inspire local football communities and create lasting memories for fans, while laying the groundwork for future collaborations in sports, healthcare, and community engagement.
