Kim Sang Sik to lead ASEAN All-Stars in match against Manchester United

VOV.VN - The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) on April 10 announced the appointment of Kim Sang Sik as head coach of the ASEAN All-Stars for a high-profile friendly against English Premier League giants Manchester United.

According to the schedule, the match will take place on May 28 at Bukit Jalil Stadium in Malaysia.

According to Khiev Sameth, President of the AFF, coach Kim Sang Sik represents both progress and professionalism.

“His leadership will inspire not only the players on the field, but also an entire generation of athletes and fans,” he said.

Sameth revealed that the ASEAN All-Stars Team will include top players selected from all 12 AFF Member Associations, reflecting the diversity and collective strength of Southeast Asian football.

As head coach of the Vietnam national team, Kim Sang Sik expressed surprise at being selected by the AFF, and said that leading the best players from across ASEAN in such a meaningful match is a great honour.

“We’re not only representing our own nations – we’re showcasing the pride, spirit, and strength of our entire region to the world,” he concluded.

Kim Sang Sik was a former midfielder who earned many caps for the Korean national team. He led Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors to win the 2021 K League title and the 2022 Korean FA Cup. He was named K League Coach of the Year for the 2021 season and also received the Korean Football Association’s Coach of the Year award in 2022.

Kim was appointed by the Vietnam Football Federation following the departure of Philippe Troussier last March. His decision to take the job was largely influenced by his predecessor Park Hang-seo, who had delivered the most successful period in Vietnam’s football history.
