Local swimmers Son and Phuoc unable to join ASIAD 19

VOV.VN - Two Vietnamese swimmers Nguyen Huu Kim Son and Hoang Quy Phuoc will not be joining up with the national team to compete at the Asian Games (ASIAD) 19 which will be held in China in September.

According to Le Thanh Huyen, a representative of the Sports Authority of Vietnam, the reason for the absence of the two SEA Games 32 champions is due to their upcoming specialised training course which will take place in Hungary.

Phuoc and Son had been viewed as two swimmers with the most potential to bring success the nation at ASIAD 19.

This comes after Phuoc brought home two golds, one silver, and one bronze medal from SEA Games 31. Most notably, he pocketed two gold medals in the men’s 4x200 and 4x100-meter freestyle relay events.

Meanwhile, Son won several gold medals in other sports events, with two gold medals at the 29th SEA Games in 2017 and at the 31st SEA Games in 2022. He also ranked 27th at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships held in Japan.

Furthermore, some sources state that Son has decided to retire from the national football team to focus on his studies.
