Local martial artist bags gold medal at Asian taekwondo tournament

VOV.VN - Vietnamese martial artist Truong Thi Kim Tuyen won a gold medal at the Asian Taekwondo Championships 2021 during its closing day on June 17 in Beirut, Lebanon.

In the women’s 49kg category the local girl defeated Hung Yu-Ting of Taiwan (China) in the semi-finals.

The local martial artist then won the category after easing past Madinabonu Mannopova of Uzbekistan 25-24 in the final of the competition.

This comes after Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet secured a silver medal in the women's 57kg.

The 24th version of the Asian Taekwondo Championships ran from June 16 to June 18 and attracted the participation of 337 athletes from 28 countries.

Vietnam sent three martial artists to participate in the event, including Truong Thi Kim Tuyen in the 49kg category, Ho Thi Kim Ngan in the 53kg category, and Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet in the 57kg category.

The Vietnamese taekwondo team are now set to fly to Kazakhstan on June 19 to take part in a training camp.

Truong Thi Kim Tuyen and her coach Kim Ki-tae are due to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games on July 19.
