Local marksman wins first silver medal at Asian Games
VOV.VN - Marksman Ngo Huu Vuong finished second in the 10m running target men, duly winning the first silver medal for Vietnam at the ongoing 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) in Hangzhou, China, on September 25.
He recorded a total of 571 points, seven points lower than gold medalist Putra M. of Indonesia. Elsewhere, Jeong You Jin of the Republic of Korea bagged a bronze medal.
His teammate Nguyen Tuan Anh came fifth in the same 10m running target men competition.
Five years ago Ngo Huu Vuong won a bronze medal at ASIAD 18 which was held in Indonesia. This marks the first time that a Vietnamese competitor has finished second in the sport at the Asian Games.
So far, local athletes have won a total of one silver medal and four bronze medals. Vuong obtained the only one silver medal, the rowers bagged three bronzes, whilst another bronze medal went to taekwondo martial artist Tran Ho Duy.
ASIAD 19 commenced on September 23 with the event being scheduled to last through to October 8 in Hangzhou, China. The 504-strong Vietnamese sports delegation is made up of 337 athletes and will compete in 31 out of the 40 sports available.
Moving forward, Vietnam aims to pocket up to five gold medals during the course of ASIAD 19, close to the achievement recorded back at the ASIAD 18 in Indonesia in 2018, which is the most successful Asian Games of a Vietnamese sporting delegation to date.
During that version of the tournament the Vietnamese delegation won five gold medals in the women's rowing, athletics, women’s long jump, men's pencak silat, and women’s 400m hurdles.
