Local canoeists bring home six golds at Asian tournament
VOV.VN - Vietnamese canoeists bagged six gold, four silver, and two bronze medals at the Asian Canoe Sprint Junior and U23 Championships which concluded on June 16 in Thailand.
A gold medal went to Olympic qualifier Nguyen Thi Huong who topped the U23 women's single C1 500m event.
She also teamed up with Nguyen Thi Hong Thai and Diep Thi Huong to win two more gold medals in the U23 women's double C2 200m and C2 500m events, respectively.
Mac Thi Thanh Thuy and Diep Thi Thuy in the U18 women's double C2 200m and C2 500m races, as well as Nguyen Thi Hai Anh in the U18 women's single C1 500m, also brought home three gold medals between them.
Taking place in Thailand from June 10 to June 16, the Asian tournament witnessed the participation of athletes from 18 countries.
Moving forward, the Vietnamese canoeing and rowing team will send two Olympic qualifiers to more international tournaments before heading to 2024 Paris Olympics which are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11.
Rower Pham Thi Hue will compete in the 2024 Southeast Asia Rowing and Canoeing, U19 and U23 Championships in the northern port city of Hai Phong from June 24 to July 7.
Meanwhile, canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong will take part in the U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships which will be held in Bulgaria this July.
