Local athletes to receive US$1 million per gold medal at 2024 Paris Olympics

VOV.VN - Vietnamese athlete participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics will receive US$1 million in bonuses for each gold medal win.

Along with the bonus for gold medals, incentives of US$500,000 and US$200,000 will also be awarded for each silver and bronze medal won by Vietnamese Olympians competing in Paris.

The announcement was made on January 31 at a meeting held between Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, Ryu Seungmin, President of the International School Sport Federation (ISF), and Ser Miang of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

At the meeting, the ISF representative said that it will support the entire training cost for 100 Vietnamese athletes competing in sports that the Republic of Korea (RoK) has strengths in.

They will be selected by the ISF and will then be sent to RoK to participate in training camps under the guidance of Korean experts.

Five years ago, Vietnam ranked 45th in the medal table at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil, with one gold and one silver, both of which were won by shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh.
