Le Khanh Hung achieves Vietnam’s best-ever result at Asia-Pacific Amateur Champion
VOV.VN - Seventeen-year-old Le Khanh Hung finished tied for fifth in the 2025 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) held at Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, marking the best performance by a Vietnamese golfer at the tournament.
The previous top result was Nguyen Anh Minh’s tied-seventh place at the 2023 AAC at Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Australia.
Over four rounds, Khanh Hung recorded scores of 66-67-73-71, finishing with a total of -11. “I tried to maintain focus throughout the tournament, and although I failed to achieve the highest result, I am proud to have given my all. This result will be a great motivation for the upcoming SEA Games,” Khanh Hung said.
Vietnam’s other representative, Nguyen Duc Son, returned strongly after missing the cut in 2024. He completed all four rounds this year and finished tied for 42nd.
The 2025 AAC concluded with Fifa Laopakdee of Thailand winning the title. After matching Taisei Nagasaki of Japan at -15, both advanced to a playoff. Laopakdee secured birdie on the third extra hole, becoming the first Thai golfer to win the AAC.
The victory earns Laopakdee spots at The Masters and The Open 2025, and he will be a competitor to watch for Vietnamese golfers at SEA Games 33.
APAC was established by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation in 2009, for amateur golfers in the region and is currently sponsored by two organizers of the majors, including Augusta National in Georgia, US (Masters) and Royal & Ancient in Scotland (The Open).
This year's tournament featured the participation of 120 golfers, mainly selected through the world amateur golf rankings.
