Largest virtual Vietnamese community run launched to raise funds for charities

VOV.VN - Virtual community run UpRace 2022, the largest of its kind in Vietnam held to raise funds for social activities, is scheduled to get underway from October 28 to November 20.

This year the run has set the target of reaching a new goal of six million kilometres, equal to VND6 billion in donations for the Association for the Support of Vietnamese Handicapped and Orphans (ASVHO) and the Save Vietnam's Wildlife (SVW).

These donations will offer scholarships and bicycles specifically for handicapped students and orphans.

The run will also support SVW launched “One Breakfast” – a campaign that implies a symbolic message that saving endangered species requires no complex actions. Indeed, with only “One Breakfast” donated, people can contribute to the efforts of saving animals in Vietnam from going extinct.

This year marks the fifth time the run has been launched. It is also the first time that UpRace has attracted celebrities serving as ambassadors, including football star Doan Van Hau, Miss Fitness Vietnam 2022 Doan Thu Thuy, and ultra-trail champion Quang Tran.

UpRace was launched by VNG, a technology company in Vietnam, in 2018. Through a mobile application, the cumulative distance of participating runners will be measured, with each validated kilometre equaling donations of at least VND1,000 from sponsoring companies.

During the 2018 - 2021 period, UpRace has collected approximately VND20 billion for five charity organisations - Newborns Vietnam, Operation Smile Vietnam, Green Viet, Vietseeds, and Saigon Children's Charity.

So far the run has attracted the participation of more than 240,000 runners from across the country, becoming the largest virtual community run in Vietnam.
