Khoi to face off against Liem at Sharjah Masters

VOV.VN -17 year-old talented chess player Nguyen Anh Khoi will play the grandmaster Le Quang Liem in their eighth match at the ongoing 2019 Sharjah Masters international chess tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

Liem (Elo rating 2715) had a victory over Sundararajan Kidambi of India (Elo rsting 2413) after 39 moves in his seventh match while Khoi (Elo rating 2484) held Gupta Abhijeet of India (Elo rating 2602) to a draw, remaining his undefeated streak. The two Vietnamese players earned 5 points each after seven matches, ranking the same group with 23 other competitors.

According to the tournament’s regulations, chess players, who have the same points, will be divided into pairs by the draw.

That occurrence would see Liem play Khoi in the next match.

This is not the first time Khoi and Liem have faced off against each other. Previously, Khoi lost to Liem in the standard event at HDBank Cup International Chess Tournament 2017.
