Japanese archery Kyudo attracts young Hanoians

(VOV) - Kyudo club located in Cau Giay district cultural house, was founded in 2012 by Japanese cultural lovers. So far, it has attracted many young Hanoians.

Kyudo is the modern Japanese martial art of archery. It is well-known to Vietnamese young people through Japanese cartoons and comic books (mangas).

The bow, arrows and accessories are rather costly as they are imported from Japan.

Suda is a trainer at Kyudo club. He had been a teacher of Japanese in Nam Dinh province.

In Japan, Kyudo is not only a kind of sports but also a ritual.

It takes a beginner 3-6 months to grasp basic movements of Kyudo.

Mai Anh, an 8th grader in Doan Thi Diem secondary school has practised Kyudo for three months. She said, “I like Japanese culture. Through comic books, I know about Kyudo, so I decided to follow it.”

A Hakama uniform costs VND750,000.

Uemura is working in Vietnam. He hopes that practising Kyudo will help improve his physical and mental health.
