International women’s cycling tournament opens in Binh Duong

VOV.VN - The 13th international women’s cycling tournament (Biwase Cup 2023) officially kicked off on March 8 in the southern province of Binh Duong.

The event witnessed the participation of cyclists from 11 local teams and seven teams from Thailand, the Philippines, Kazakhstan, Taiwan (China), Singapore, and Malaysia.

The 10-day tournament will see participants compete for a total distance of 1,101 km through Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces. As part of the course, cyclists will be challenged by several passes, including Bao Loc, Prenn, and Vinh Hy.  

Maneephan Jutatip of Thailand won the opening 66-km-stage of the tournament on the first day. She was followed by Nguyen Thi Thu Mai of the Loc Troi Group team and Lam Thi Thuy Duong of the Ho Chi Minh City Vinama team.

The Loc Troi Group team took the lead in the team event, followed by the Ho Chi Minh City Vinama team and the Philippines’ team.

As scheduled, the cyclists will compete in the second 140-km-stage from Thu Dau Mot city in Binh Duong province to Hon Quan district in Binh Phuoc province on March 9.

Winners of the tournament will therefore receive cash prizes worth a total of more than VND500 million.

The annual tournament is part of activities being held to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8. It aims to provide local cyclists with a good opportunity to hone their professional skills whilst gaining experience from foreign competitors in preparation for regional and international competitions.

The tournament will run until March 17.
