Indonesian clubs keep tabs on Vietnamese defender
VOV.VN - National team defender Vu Van Thanh is currently being chased by several different clubs in Indonesia following a recent string of outstanding performances.
According to Indonesian sports newspaper Bola, a number of clubs in Liga 1, the men's top professional football division of the Indonesian football league system, are planning to recruit Southeast Asian stars ahead of the second phase of the 2023 to 2024 season.
The media outlet confirmed that Van Thanh is among those being targeted.
It stressed that the potential of Vietnamese players cannot be underestimated, particularly as their abilities are not inferior to that of Thai stars at a Southeast Asian level.
Thanh, 27, was voted Vietnamese Young Player of the Year in 2016. He then started to gain more recognition after being part of the national team that reached the finals at the 2018 AFC U-23 Championship.
He currently plays for V.League 1 champions Cong An Ha Noi FC.
