Huynh, Yen win gold medals in chess champs

Lai Ly Huynh secured a second gold medal at the National Chinese Chess Team Championships, which concluded on May 30 in Danang City.

Binh Duong Province’s Huynh triumphed in the men’s rapid Chinese chess event with 7.5 points in nine matches, played in two days.

He was followed by Phí Minh Cuong of Hanoi, who had seven points, and Vo Minh Nhat from Binh Phuoc, with the same points but lower parameter.

Last week, Huynh pocketed his first gold in the blitz event.

On the women’s side, HCM City representative Nguyen Hoang Yen also made a double.

She won the rapid event yesterday with seven points. Earlier, she topped the standard event, which concluded on May 28.

Her teammates Dam Thi Thuy Dung and Ngo Lan Huong came second and third, respectively.

In the mixed doubles pool, Binh Dinh took their second title after winning the rapid event.

HCM City and Ba Ria-Vung Tau were runners-up.

After 10 days of competitions, HCM City top the team’s medal tally with three gold, six silver and three bronze. Binh Duong are second and Binh Dinh are third.
