HCM City women’s team to trial video challenge system at AFC Women’s Asian Cup
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Club will have the opportunity to test the Football Video Challenge (FVC) technology during the 2025/2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, set to kick off in November, according to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The FVC is a new system adapted from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) concept. Unlike VAR, which operates through on-field referees and dedicated VAR officials, the FVC allows teams to directly request reviews of contentious decisions without additional referee assistants.
Under the system, each team is granted two challenges per match to request a review of disputed situations, such as goal/no-goal decisions, penalty awards, or red card incidents. If a challenge is upheld, the team retains its challenge rights; if rejected, the right is forfeited. This mechanism mirrors the “video challenge” protocols already in use in sports such as volleyball, badminton, and tennis.
According to the AFC, the FVC technology will be implemented in all matches of the AFC Women’s Champions League 2025/2026, starting from the group stage.
The group stage will run from November 9 to 23, with Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Club playing at Thong Nhat Stadium between November 13 and 19.
