HCM City to host Asian Junior Athletics Championships 2016

The 17th Asian Junior Athletics Championships 2016 will be held at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City from June 3-6.

The event is expected to see the participation of up to 700 young athletes and coaches from 40 countries and territories worldwide, including Qatar, Japan, China, Iraq, Republic of Korea, Taiwan and Thailand, competing in 22 categories.

Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Athletics Federation Nguyen Trung Hinh said the host country will have 27 athletes, hoping to achieve high prizes at the tournament.

The biennial event is also an opportunity for young Vietnamese track and field athletes to prepare for the Junior Olympics.

Vietnam ranked 10th out of the 23 nations competing in the 16 th Asian Junior Athletics Championships 2014, which took place in Taiwan. China took the lead with 12 gold, 10 silver and two bronze medals.
