Guyana appoints Vietnamese coach as national team assistant
VOV.VN - The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has appointed Vietnamese coach Nguyen Hoang Lan as assistant coach of the national team as the Golden Jaguars gear up for upcoming international tournaments.
Lan previously worked alongside Dooley at The Cong Viettel FC, one of Vietnam’s leading professional football clubs. He brings extensive experience from both first-team and youth coaching roles, having contributed to the club’s V.League 1 title in 2020 as well as national youth championships at the U21 and U17 levels.
Originally a sports journalist and commentator, Lan began his football career as a language assistant at The Cong Viettel FC before transitioning into coaching. At the international level, he participated in major continental competitions including the AFC Champions League 2021 and the AFC Cup 2022, gaining valuable exposure to high-level tactical and competitive environments.
Known for his tactical acumen, Lan specialises in match analysis, defensive organisation, and transitional play. He has a strong track record in developing young talent while maintaining competitiveness at the national-team level—expertise that aligns with the GFF’s strategy to strengthen player development pathways and improve the national team’s performance.
Fluent in English and experienced in multicultural football settings, Lan is expected to integrate quickly into Guyana’s coaching staff and contribute significantly to enhancing the federation’s technical standards and international competitiveness.
