Golf tournament helps connect overseas Vietnamese worldwide

The 7th Overseas Vietnamese World Golf Championship is scheduled to take place in the northern city of Hai Phong from January 9 to 11.

The event, to be held at Dragon Golf Links and Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong, has recorded nearly 100 participants from 16 countries and territories registering so far.

Speaking at a press conference in Hanoi on January 6, Nguyen Manh Dong, vice chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (SCOV) and head of the organising committee, highlighted the development of the overseas Vietnamese (OV) community in recent years, saying they play an influential role in the politics, economy, and society in over 130 countries and territories worldwide.

Efforts to enhance the national solidarity have made significant progress through activities organised by the SCOV, fostering the community's trust in and ties with the homeland, he noted.

He said that the tournament, launched in 2015, aims to create a platform for OV golf enthusiasts to come together, and serve as a means to expand and enrich the ways in which the global Vietnamese community can connect.

This is more than just a sporting event - it is an opportunity to strengthen bonds within the OV community worldwide and reinforce their solidarity, Dong emphasised.

The tournament marks the start of a series of events planned for OVs this year. It is organised by the SCOV under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with various agencies and localities.

It will be followed by “Xuan Que Huong” (Homeland Spring), the largest cultural and diplomatic event held annually for OVs during the Lunar New Year holiday. This flagship programme will take place in Hanoi from January 18 to 21, or from the 19th to 22nd days of the last lunar month in the Year of the Dragon.
