Fox Sports Asia picks Van Lam among leading Asian goalkeepers

 

The prestigious sports broadcaster’s official website lists a total of nine shot stoppers considered to be the continent’s best, all of whom can be voted on by supporters to decide who is ultimately the best between the sticks.

At present, Van Lam is plying his trade for Muangthong United FC in Thailand. The goalkeeper has made a number of great contributions to the success of Vietnam’s national squad over recent years, winning the AFF Cup in 2018, reaching the quarter finals of the Asian Cup in 2019, and securing a silver medal at the King's Cup in 2019.

Last year he made the move from Hai Phong to the Thai league, with his transfer being the highest fee paid in the history of Vietnamese football. Following the move, Van Lam successfully established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Thai League during the 2019 season.

Also included in the Dream Asian Goalkeeper list are other Southeast Asian candidates such as Neil Etheridge of the Philippines, Khairul Fahmi of Malaysia, Lionel Lewis of Singapore, and Kawin Thamsatchanan of Thailand.

Other nominees include Kawaguchi Yoshikatsu of Japan, Alireza Beiranvand of Iran, Lee Woon-jae of the Republic of Korea, and Ali Al-Habsi of Oman.
