First medal for Vietnamese kurash wrestlers at ASIAD Hangzhou

VOV.VN - Wrestler Vo Thi Phuong Quynh on October 2 brought home a bronze medal for Vietnam at the ongoing 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) which is taking place in Hangzhou, China.

Quynh went to the first semi-final match against Bagheri Zahra (Iran) in the women’s 87kg category with high confidence after outplaying Muhammedova Jahan (Turkmenistan) in the quarterfinals.

Despite her attempts, the Vietnamese fighter accepted her defeat to 2022 world defending champion Jahan, taking a bronze medal.

This was Vietnamese kurash wrestlers’ only medal at the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Earlier, another Vietnamese kurash wrestler, Bui Minh Quan, failed to progress to the semi-finals after losing Atayev Ishanmyrat (Turkmenistan) in the quarter-finals.

Vietnam has so far won a gold, three silver and 13 bronze medals, ranking 17th on the overall medal table.

On October 2, the Vietnamese sports delegation are scheduled to compete in nine sports - archery, canoe, weightlifting, badminton, sepak takraw, chess, athletics, kurash, and roller sports.
