First international open-water swimming race held in Khanh Hoa

VOV.VN - An open-water swimming tournament called the Arena Oceanman Cam Ranh Vietnam 2023 is scheduled to take place from April 14 to 16 in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

Oceanman makes up the world's largest international swimming tournament. The event was first organised in 2015 and so far up to 27 tournaments have been held in 23 countries and territories worldwide. This year marks the first version of the international open-water swimming race to be organised in Vietnam.

The tournament is expected to draw 850 domestic and foreign racers who are set to compete along the Bai Dai beach of Cam Ranh city.

To date, more than 600 athletes have registered to participate in the race, including around 300 athletes from 21 countries and territories globally.

The competition will feature many racing distances and forms, such as Oceanteams 10km, Oceanman 5km, Sprint 2km, and team relay 3x800m. In addition, the tournament also has a competition Oceankids 800m specifically for children.

Winners will qualify for the 2023 Oceanman world finals which are scheduled to get underway in Phuket, Thailand.

Nguyen Tuan Thanh, deputy director of the provincial Culture and Sports Department, said the international race is part of a range of activities being held to mark the 370th founding anniversary of Khanh Hoa province, while also aiming to encourage the public to engage in the sport and boost the development of local tourism.
