FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy to visit Vietnam

VOV.VN - The FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy is set to visit the nation from March 4 to March 5 on its global tour ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023.

According to details published on FIFA’s official website, the tour will take the iconic Trophy to all 32 of the nations participating in the global tournament, with this providing inspiration for fans of all ages by ‘Going Beyond’ to celebrate the rocketing popularity of the women’s game.

The dates of the stops in the final three countries who qualify via the play-offs will be added following their confirmation.

The trophy will crisscross the globe by visiting Asia, beginning in Japan, before heading to Africa, South America, North America, and Europe. The trophy will then travel to all nine of the Women’s World Cup host cities in the final weeks before the start of the tournament on July 20.

“The FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy Tour is a spectacular global celebration of the women’s game, giving fans, families and future football enthusiasts an opportunity to be inspired and become part of a truly special journey,” said Fatma Samoura, secretary general of FIFA, on the governing body’s official website.

A recent draw put Vietnam in Group E with the United States, the Netherlands, and one of the play-off winners.

This is considered a huge challenge for Vietnam, who are ranked 34th in the world, particularly as the US are the defending and four-time champions and the number one in the world rankings, while the Netherlands are eighth.

This year’s competition is the first time Vietnam has qualified for a Women's World Cup. Vietnam are one of the six teams to qualify from Asia, along with China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, and co-hosts Australia.
