FIFA futsal rankings: Vietnam women hold 11th, men drop to 22nd

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s women’s futsal team maintained their 11th place in the latest FIFA world rankings released for 2026, while the men’s team slipped two places to 22nd after losing 9.59 points.

In the women’s rankings, Vietnam gained 8.36 points to retain their global ranking, underlining the team’s consistency and stable standing on the international stage.

At the top of the women’s rankings, Brazil continued to lead the world, with the top six positions unchanged from the December 2025 update. Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Italy and Japan followed respectively, while Thailand and Colombia rounded out the next positions.

One of the biggest movers in the women’s rankings was France, which climbed 15 places to world No.33. Costa Rica and Fiji also posted notable gains, rising to 27th and 59th respectively.

Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives entered the FIFA women’s futsal rankings for the first time, bringing the total number of ranked teams to 96.

The May 2026 women’s rankings were calculated based on 84 newly recorded international matches, including UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2027 qualifiers and international friendlies.

In the men’s rankings, Brazil stayed top after winning the 2026 CONMEBOL Copa América de Futsal, securing a record-extending 12th title. Portugal, Spain, Argentina and Iran completed the top five. Spain recently won the UEFA Futsal EURO 2026, while Iran successfully defended the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup title to reaffirm their status as Asia’s top team.

Vietnam dropped two places to 22nd in the world after losing 9.59 ranking points. Indonesia Indonesia emerged as one of the biggest risers in the men’s rankings, climbing 10 places to world No.14 after finishing runner-up at the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.

Other notable climbers included North Macedonia, Montenegro, Peru and Norway. Cabo Verde, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Senegal and Kenya were ranked by FIFA in men’s futsal for the first time, while Cameroon returned to the rankings after more than eight years and Afghanistan climbed seven places to 21st.
