FIFA congratulates Vietnam on historic U17 World Cup qualification

VOV.VN - FIFA’s official website and social media channels have congratulated Vietnam after the country’s U17 team secured a place at the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the first time in history.

Vietnam advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC U17 Asian Cup as Group C winners, becoming one of Asia’s eight representatives at the global tournament.

On its website, FIFA described the result as a historic milestone for Vietnamese football following the team’s dramatic 3-2 win over the United Arab Emirates.

FIFA’s report highlighted the dramatic nature of the match, noting that the UAE took the lead inside the opening minute before Vietnam fought back to move ahead 2-1.

After Adam Mahrous equalized for the UAE, Nguyen Manh Cuong headed home the winner to secure a 3-2 victory and top spot in Group C for the Southeast Asian side.

FIFA also shared congratulatory posts on social media following Vietnam’s qualification for the tournament.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) likewise praised Vietnam’s achievement after the team secured both a quarterfinal place at the AFC U17 Asian Cup and qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026 is scheduled to take place from November 19 to December 13 in Qatar and will feature 48 teams.
