Female weightlifter wins gold after breaking SEA Games 31's record
VOV.VN - Female Vietnamese weightlifter Hoang Thi Duyen broke a competition record at SEA Games 31 to secure a gold medal in the snatch event in the 59kg category on May 20.
The Vietnamese karate team continued its impressive performance on May 20 to win a gold medal on the third day of the karate event.
Accordingly, the quartet Ho Thi Thu Hien, Hoang Thi My Tam, Nguyen Thi Ngoan, and Trang Cam Lanh pocketed gold in the women's kumite category, while local judo martial artist Chu Duc Dat defeated his Laotian rival to claim gold in the men’s under-60 kg category.
Vovinam fighter Mai Thi Kim Thuy also clinched gold for the Vietnamese Vovinam team on the third day of the competition.
Furthermore, female weightlifter Hoang Thi Duyen secured a gold medal in in the snatch and the clean & jerk after lifting a total weight of 204 kg.
Elsewhere, Vietnamese players Le Tuan Minh and Pham Le Thao Nguyen won golds in the men’s and women’s individual blitz chess at the ongoing SEA Games 31.
After defeating Thai and Singaporean opponents in succession, female shooter Phi Thanh Thao won gold in the women's 50m rifle three positions.
Moreover, Vietnam defeated Singapore in the second-leg match of the men’s indoor handball at SEA Game 31 to get a gold medal.
On the morning of May 20, local canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong grabbed gold after finishing first in the women's singles 500m event, while Nguyen Thi Kim Loan also brought home gold in the women's singles Chinese event with a record of six wins and one draw.
