Da Nang opens Kayak racing competition

The central city of Da Nang on February 25 opened a Kayak racing competition on the Han River, attracting the participation of over 200 lovers of the sport.

The event is part of a series of activities surrounding the Da Nang leg of the International Clipper Race 2015-2016.

The 2.5 km long competition runs from the Rong (Dragon) bridge to the Han Bridge. There are two heats of 30 teams in the opening round, with the top 20 teams from the heats going forward to the final. Each Kayak is controlled by two athletes.

This year the competition attracted the participation of relatives and friends and some of the sailors who are participating in the International Clipper Race.

The event is one of many activities to encourage local physical training and promote the sport, while creating an attraction for locals and visitors to the city.

On February 22, Da Nang received the Clipper Race founder and sailing legend, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston to the city.

The Clipper Race is the only race of its kind for amateur sailors, racing around the world with a diverse crew representing 100 different occupations with no prior seafaring experience.
