Cong wins gold with WR lift in World Para Championships

VOV.VN - Vietnamese athlete Le Van Cong has bagged a gold medal while setting a new world record in the men's 49kg category at the World Para Swimming and Weightlifting Championships 2017 in Mexico City on December 5.

He lifted 178kg and 181kg in his first and second attempts.

In his third attempt, he failed to lift 183.5kg. However, he successfully  raised 183.5kg on his fourth attempt, winning the gold medal and breaking the world record which he had set previously.

Omar Qarada from Jordan took home the silver medal with a lift of 178kg. Yakubu Adesokan from Nigeria won bronze with a lift of 175kg.

Cong’s medal is the first gold for the Vietnamese team in the tournament. The World Para Swimming and Weightlifting Championships 2017 will close on December 8.
