Coach Troussier issues apology to Vietnamese fans
VOV.VN - A day after leaving his position as head coach of the Vietnam national team, French coach Philippe Troussier has written a letter on his personal page expressing many thoughts, apologies, and thanks to local fans during his career.
He acknowledged the recent disappointments faced by Vietnam in the World Cup qualifiers, bore the full weight of these results and extended his acceptance of responsibilities to all.
“To the passionate supporters of Vietnam football, I offer my most sincere gratitude and apologies,” he wrote.
The Frenchman confirmed that the unwavering enthusiasm shown by local fans has been a source of inspiration for the team and he was deeply humbled by their encouragement, even in times of displeasure.
Troussier also extended his warmest regards and best wishes to all those who have been part of that journey. He stated that he is forever grateful for being given the opportunity to serve the nation.
Troussier dubbed "The White Wizard" ended his one-year career on March 26 as Vietnam national football team’s head coach with the worst win percentage of any coach in the team's history at just 28.57%.
In FIFA rankings Vietnam fell from 94th to 115th position following their poor performances at the recent second qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
On the evening of April 3, Troussier flew to France, saying that he would take time to rest before returning to work.
