Chonburi win VTV Women’s Volleyball Tournament

Supreme Chonburi club of Thailand won the VTV International Women’s Volleyball Tournament on October 15 in Ha Nam Province.

The Thai club defeated Vietnam’s national team 25-20, 25-18, 25-10.
It was the second meet and second defeat of the host to Chonburi during this tournament.

Chonburi, who has not lost any set during their competition, brought home a bonus of US$13,000.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian national team beat China’s U17 squad 25-16, 25-19, 25-15 to take the third position.

Coach Thai Thanh Tung of Vietnam said there was a large skills gap between Vietnam and Thailand, which could be seen by Vietnam’s loss to Chonburi in the final match.

“The lack of experience and competition is part of our weak points. Vietnam also makes mistakes in digging and defending, while today the blockers did not work well. We could not catch up with the rapid and dynamic pace set up by the Thai team.”

However, he said it was a lesson for his young players who showed off their determination throughout the match.

The 13th International Women’s Volleyball Tournament started in the northern province of Ha Nam on October 8.

Six teams participated in the weeklong tournament: Indonesia, a Chinese youth-team, Japan’s Nagasaki, China’s Xuzhou Jiangsu, Thailand’s Chonburi and Vietnam.

Vietnam has won the event four times, in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2014. Last year, U23 Thailand was crowned champions after defeating Chinese Liaoning Brilliance Auto 3-1 in the final.
