Chess master Kiet wins Asian youth championship

Master Dinh Nho Kiet has brought home a gold medal from the Asian Youth Chess Championships which is ongoing in Almaty, Kazakshtan.

Competing in the U16 Open category, Kiet won 6.5 points after seven matches and topped the ranking of rapid chess.

His teammate Tran Ngoc Minh Duy bagged silver with six points.

Vietnamese masters also secured four bronzes in the U8 Open by Nguyen Thanh San, U10 Open by Phan Tran Nguyen Khoi, U12 Open by Le Anh Tu, and Girls' U8 by Nguyen Vu Bao Chau.

The competitors continue to take part in the standard chess event from June 12-19. The blitz chess will be held on June 20.

The continental championship features all strongest junior players of 32 delegations competing in age groups ranging from U8 to U18 for boys and girls.

Vietnam have 52 players in Almaty. Among them, Nho Kiet Bao Chau, Thanh San, Nguyen Duc Minh, Tran Ngoc Minh Duy, Dau Khuong Duy, Quan My Linh, and Ho Ngoc Vy are expected to bring home more gold medals.
