Assistant coach Lee Jung-soo leaves Vietnam for new role in Thailand
VOV.VN - Assistant coach Lee Jung-soo of the Republic of Korea has departed the Vietnam national team setup after completing his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), taking on a new role as head coach of Kanchanaburi FC in Thailand’s top-tier league.
According to the VFF, Lee’s contract expired on March 31, 2026, and the Korean coach chose not to renew, marking the end of his tenure with both the Vietnam senior team and U23 squad. He joined the coaching staff in March 2025 and was involved in several key campaigns, including the SEA Games 33, the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Cup, and the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
During his time with Vietnam, Lee was recognised for his professionalism, strong sense of responsibility, and meaningful contributions to the teams’ technical and tactical development.
Before moving into coaching, Lee was a prominent member of the Korean national team, earning 54 caps and scoring five goals. Notably, he scored during the RoK’s 2-0 win over Greece and featured in the 2-2 draw with Nigeria at the 2010 FIFA World Cup group stage.
Since retiring as a player in 2018, he has built his coaching experience across various environments, including roles as an assistant coach at Ho Chi Minh City FC, Suwon FC, and Dongguk University. His appointment at Kanchanaburi FC marks his first time taking charge as a head coach at a professional club.
