Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers: Vietnam to play Laos at Binh Duong stadium
VOV.VN - Vietnam will take on Laos in an opening Group F match of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, third round, at Binh Duong stadium in the south on March 25, said the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
VFF said on January 17 that the hosting team will move to train in the south and play a friendly against Myanmar at Binh Duong ahead of their march 25 clash with Laos.
The Vietnam national team will not play at northern stadiums such as My Dinh or Viet Tri as in the past, while Thong Nhat stadium in Ho Chi Minh City is undergoing renovations and is not yet suitable for hosting matches.
Therefore, Binh Duong stadium, with a capacity of nearly 20,000 seats and continuous upgrades in recent times, is a viable option.
Vietnam will play in Group F alongside Laos, Nepal, and Malaysia. Teams will play a double round-robin format (home and away), with matches lasting from March 2025 to March 2026.
Group winners in the third round of the qualifiers will secure a spot in the final tournament of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup to be held in Saudi Arabia.
Coach Kim Sang-sik’s team are scheduled to play five matches in 2025 and one in 2026. The primary goal for the team is to advance to the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
