ASEAN ministers set future sports agenda at Hanoi meeting
VOV.VN - The 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS-8) opened in Hanoi on October 16, following the conclusion of the 16th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS 16).

In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh stressed that the meeting was an important event to promote cooperation and policy exchanges in the field of sports among ASEAN member countries. It also highlighted Vietnam's role in increasing cooperation between ASEAN and its partners.
He also expressed hope that delegates would focus on key discussions, including fostering comprehensive sports development for all ASEAN citizens, regardless of age, and incorporating science, technology, and innovation into sports training, competition, and management.
Besides ASEAN member countries should join hands to develop a green sports economy, meaning that sports associated with tourism, culture and creative industries, towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly growth model, he said.
Strengthening international cooperation between ASEAN and its partners to build a transparent and modern sports ecosystem is also necessary, noted the Deputy PM.
Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung chaired the meeting, which included several important agenda items such as reviewing the results of ASEAN sports cooperation since the 7th meeting, reporting on the ASEAN-FIFA Memorandum of Understanding, the ASEAN-WADA Memorandum of Understanding, evaluating the ASEAN Action Plan on Sports for the 2021-2025 period, and developing the ASEAN Action Plan on Sports for the 2026-2030 period.
The meeting also approved the Joint Statement of the AMMS-8 and discussed plans for organising the next AMMS in 2027.
